Comporium Communications Surpasses 6,300 Subscribers With Enablence, Selects TRIDENT7(TM) Universal Access Platform GPON for Continued Fiber Network Deployment

SEP 26, 2008 - 13:32 ET

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 26, 2008) - (TSX VENTURE:ENA) Enablence Technologies Inc. ("Enablence"), a leading supplier of fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) equipment for residential and business services, today announced that its customer, Comporium Communications, has now connected more than 6,300 residential and business customers with Enablence's FTTP equipment, and will now begin to deploy the TRIDENT7TM Universal Access Platform GPON solution.

Comporium, based in Rock Hill, South Carolina, is one of the largest American ILECs (Independent Local Exchange Carriers) and cable television operators with almost 100,000 customers throughout its service area.

Comporium began deploying Enablence's Last Mile Link EPON system in 2004 in order to offer voice, video and broadband Internet services over a common facility. Services include telephone, more than 150 channels of digital and high definition television, and broadband Internet service capable of 100 megabits per second. Together with the FTTP deployment, Comporium offers its wireless and security services to create a "quintuple play" bundle.

Comporium has an "FTTP only" strategy for green field developments, and they expect to connect more than one hundred residential developments encompassing approximately 10,000 customers by 2010. To keep their network on the cutting edge, Comporium recently completed a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process and selected Enablence's ITU G.984 GPON standard-compliant TRIDENT7TM Universal Access Platform for new green field deployments.

"We've had a lot of success with Enablence's products because they are IP-based and interoperate well with our other core network and transport vendors. Their FTTP solutions support full quality of service for voice and data (including IP video), and enable delivery of RF broadcast video - all on a single fiber to the home," said Mike Deller, Vice President,Engineering and Planning at Comporium. "Enablence has proven to be very reliable and has provided exceptional post-sales support, so continuing our deployments with their TRIDENT7TM GPON solution is a logical progression for us."

Enablence's FTTP equipment provides Comporium and other network operators the cost-effective option of deploying a single, flexible IP-based passive optical network for voice, data and video (RF broadcast and/or IP) over a single fiber. Furthermore, the TRIDENT7TM GPON solution delivers unparalleled symmetrical bandwidth of up to 1 gigabits per second (Gbps), either dedicated or on-demand, and supports a full suite of residential and business broadband services with state-of-the-art Quality of Service (QoS) management and data security.

"We are pleased with Comporium on their success to date and we will continue working hard to meet the evolving service requirements," said Arvind Chhatbar, CEO for Enablence. "It is a real pleasure to help our customers succeed and evolve, and successful deployments such as Comporium's have enabled us to become a leader in FTTP amongst independent operators and other markets."

The TRIDENT7TM Universal Access Platform is the only FTTP platform on the market capable of supporting ITU G.984 GPON, IEEE 802.3 GE-PON (EFM PON), and IEEE 802.3 Point-to-Point optical access standards from a common platform. See Enablence's FTTx Networks Division and the full suite of TRIDENT7TM products in Booth #925 at the FTTH Conference & Expo in Nashville, September 21 - 25.
